WHAT: First organized coast to coast wagon train (Yes, covered wagons pulled by mules and horses).
WHEN: We will start the first leg of the wagon train in North Carolina on March 19, 2012 and go to Beatrice, NE.
The second leg will be in 2013, starting in Beatrice, NE and going across Nebraska and Wyoming.
In 2014, the final leg of the wagon train will go from Idaho and finish in Oregon. All in all, the wagon train will cover about 3200 miles.
WHY:Ben Kern has been doing wagon trains for several decades and wanted to do something real special as his last BIG wagon train.
What a better way to do it than coast to coast on an organized wagon train. As far as we know, it will be a first.
DETAILS:
The first part of the trip will follow the Trail of Tears North Route to Rolla, MO.
We will work our way over to the Oregon Trail and follow it and some of the famous cutoffs to the west coast.
